MatriArk at
Seabrook House (click to go directly to website)
MatriArk at Seabrook House, a completely separate program from Seabrook
House's core adult residential services, provides comprehensive substance
abuse treatment to positively change the entire life pattern of addicted
mothers and their children. Pregnant or postpartum women entering
the MatriArk program for alcohol and drug dependence, bring their
infants and children up to age 12 with them. Length of stay in the
residential program is up to 12 months, with all medical and mental
health needs provided.
Social service and judicial systems work with the MatriArk program
with the goal of preserving the family unit. Children placed in the
foster care system are often reunited with their mothers during their
stay.
MatriArk is a gender specific, culturally sensitive, "women for women" program which addresses the total women and her family.
Admission
All New Jersey women who are chemically dependent and either pregnant,
postpartum, or have children aged 12 or under (are eligible for admission).
This program is funded by the New Jersey Department of Human Services.
Call 1-800-761-7575, 24 hours a day to schedule an admission assessment.
Medically Monitored Withdrawal
24-hour medical staff assures the safe withdrawal of the MatriArk
patient from alcohol or drugs. Methadone and other medications are
administered when medically warranted, with the ultimate goal of becoming
drug free.
Residential Primary Care
The family unit lives together; however, the women concentrate mostly
on themselves and their recovery during this phase of individualized
treatment. Children are involved in day care and counseling programs
while their mothers focus on how to get well and stay well. This safe
environment, fostered by female clinicians, enhances the mother's
ability to recover from addiction and other self-defeating obstacles.
Transitional Living Phase
The family continues in residence during this phase, but the woman's
recovery process is oriented toward building the skills she needs
to provide a healthy lifestyle for herself and her children. Treatment
will address the full range of therapy with the goal of maintaining
abstinence, improving her parenting skills and emotional health. Educational
and vocational needs are also targeted during this phase.
Children's Services
Children receive early intervention services and individual treatment
to enhance healthy development. Assessment of learning disabilities
and developmental needs are incorporated in the child's treatment
plan. Children are involved in counseling programs and activities
that promote self-esteem and reduce the likelihood of repeating the
cycle of family addiction. School age children are enrolled in school
or summer camp during their stay.
The MatriArk Child Care program, provided by our state licensed Day Care Center, develops expectations and patterns of success for the child. The program stimulates the child's social and emotional health, communication skills and family relationships through cognitive, intellectual, physical, nutritional, and mental health development.
Aftercare Case Management
Aftercare services are coordinated through MatriArk for one year after
a family's stay, with the goal that the family never has to return
to the life of active addiction and dysfunction. Placements in halfway
houses, affordable housing, employment and other social services further
ensure the success of each MatriArk family.
